<description lang=en>The cities of Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion have benefited from the Departementalisation process of 1946, which, since then, has brought about a levelling-up effect from them. Most of the population is concentred in the cities, which provide the main tertiairy services and exert their influence over the whole island territory.</description>
<description lang=fr>Les villes de la Guadeloupe, la Martinique et la Réunion ont bénéficié de la mise à niveau qui accompagne la départementalisation depuis 1946. Elles concentrent la population, détiennent les principaux pouvoirs tertiaires et rayonnent sur l'ensemble des espaces insulaires.</description>
