This secondary school that admits male students only was opened at this site on March 25, 1904 by Governor Sir Alfred Maloney. QRC originated from the Stuart Grammar School, at the corner of Duke and Edward Streets Port of Spain. In 1870 the school, which was then housed in the supper room of the Prince's Building, became the Queen's Royal College (Q.R.C.) and when the Government Farm moved from St. Clair in 1899, a portion of the land was reserved "as a new home for Q.R.C. through the intervention of acting Governor Sir Courtney Knollys".
