<description>Stalactites resembling narrow curtains have formed at the entrance to the cave in this vintage photograph of the Gasparee Caves on Gasparee Island, also known as Gaspar Grande, off the north–west coast of Trinidad. Gasparee Island is an island made of limestone with an intriguing network of underground caves, caverns and sinkholes formed as a result of a combination of wave action, rainfall and percolating ground-water dissolving the limestone. The caves are one of Trinidad’s tourist attractions.</description>
