On the right of Dr. Williams is Sir Grantley Adams, the Premier of Barbados (1951-1958). In recognition of his meritorious contribution to Barbados and the wider Caribbean region, Her Majesty, the Queen of England, knighted him in 1957. Adams became the first and only Prime Minister of the West Indies Federation, 1958-1962 and was an important figure in the regional integration movement.
