This disease results in chronic pelvic pain and infertility and is characterized by the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside of uterine cavity. To date, the diagnosis of endometriosis takes many years because of the lack of non-invasive diagnostic tools. Interestingly, "Omics" technologies demonstrated their relevance for the search, identification and characterization of potential disease biomarkers with significant achievements in many areas in the field of human health. Use a panel of Omics approaches seems to be a good way to improve our knowledge about endometriosis. Despite several studies on the subject, the potential biomarkers obtained are still not used in the clinical practice, as it calls for large-scale validation. Combined approaches based on strong interdisciplinary collaborations should improve our knowledge of endometriosis, and allow the identification of specific predictive markers, thus leading to the development of therapeutic solutions for a non-invasive and early diagnosis of this debilitating disease.
