Breeding to develop a purple sweetpotato for the Virgin Islands

Résumé

Limited work has focused on the nutritionally beneficial purple sweet potato in the Caribbean. These sweet potatoes are an excellent source of bioflavonoids and antioxidants. Cultivars of this variety are common in Asia, but rarely grown in the West. These Asian cultivars plant tuberous roots along the stem where they take root. The objective of this work was to introduce the characteristic with violet flesh in very productive early lines (90-105 days).
